Lethbridge East
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lethbridge East is an provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, covering the eastern half of the city of Lethbridge.
Under the Alberta electoral boundary re-distribution of 2004, 13th Street forms most of the dividing line between Lethbridge East and Lethbridge West. 16th Avenue South and Scenic Drive also form a small part of the boundary. The constituency is bounded at the city limits by Little Bow.
The constituency has not elected a member from the governing Progressive Conservatives since 1993, a feat unmatched by any other riding outside Edmonton. Liberal Ken Nicol was the MLA from 1993 until 2004. In his final term, Nicol was the only member outside the capital who did not represent the Tories. Nicol resigned before dissolution of the legislature to run in the 2004 federal election, and the seat remained vacant until the 2004 provincial election was called in October 2004. Bridget Pastoor held the seat for the Liberals.
