[edit] Re: Reasoning for including shipping?

So this finds you:

The inclusion of a shipping mention was mostly a preventative measure, a concession to the ever-steady trickle of speculation/vandalism on Zuko and Katara's pages. These were things like how Zuko was a better romantic candidate than Aang because Aang was a monk and would never marry, or how Aunt Wu probably meant that Katara would marry Zuko because Aang was too young, or the old and rambling treatise on how nobody liked how Zuko was portrayed in fanfiction. On the one hand, this was vandalism, while on the other, it's near-constant presence was a reflection of how much of Avatar's fanbase is prone to 'shipping.' (In terms of this particular fandom, I figured the term had arrived when the show's writers were quoted using it at their Comic-con panel) It's practically endemic when you look at blog communities and forums. Inexplicably, the 'Zutara' pairing seems to be the most popular canon pairing in the fanfiction morass. I figured it was best to describe the phenomenon in terms that were as dry as possible, the better to stop a deluge. (While Martha Stewart and Bill Gates are certainly characters in their own right, they aren't televised fictional ones)

By-the-by, you wouldn't know anything about a purported Golden Globes (preshow perhaps)interview with Avatar staff writer Anthony Lioi? It's a rumor that User Dudes111 posted, in a form that was initially only semi-coherent, and somewhat suspiciously worded. (see history). He's repeatedly removed the requests for verification/citation labels, and now someone else deleted it. I don't even see how Avatar staff would've been invited, seeing as it wasn't nominated for anything.--172.129.184.14 02:43, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

I don't have a television, so I don't know anything about the Golden Globes -- sorry I can't be of any help there.
As for the shipping thing, it doesn't actually matter to me if it's there or not. I don't keep up with all the news about what will be in the upcoming season, but apparently there's talk that supports such a pairing as Zuko and Katara. When I originally posted on Zuko's talk page, it was just before or after the "shipping" section was cleaned up, and before I saw the improved cleaner section.
I think it's a bit silly to include the shipping, but I don't follow the fandom, and it's probably one of those things that's big enough in the fandom to warrant an inclusion. I'm sure there're be users out there making sure the shipping sections stay in check (that they don't become half of the article filled with all sorts of speculation, etc).
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to pitch this fictional series idea to an animation studio. Bill and Martha, Japanese anime style =P

[edit] Golden Globe Interview falsified, What now?

The Season 2 news entry was originally submitted by Dudes111 ,alias thepik241 on the Avatar Fansite Distant Horizon's message boards. On said board, he claimed he "found" the new information here, when in fact he submitted it himself to garner attention and stir up hopeful Zutara fans. thepik241's post records at said board Post records from January 18th onward show him taking credit for edits performed by Dudes111 on those days they occured, unintentionally taking responsibility for spreading the rumor. This explains his frequent removals of citation requests: he knew no one would corroborate his story. Is this grounds for a temp ban? Where do I go from here, as an anonymous user?--172.175.84.200 01:40, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Ai! He removed the citation request AGAIN while I was typing this. I just deleted the thing entire. O_O What can I do as an anonymous user? I think he needs one more edit to qualify for a 3RR ban, but I can't "create" his redlinked user pager to give him a warning. *sigh* --172.175.84.200 01:54, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Okay, your pitch for a Martha/Bill anime was chuckle-worthy...but this? This is funny. Attempts at sockpuppetry are inherently amusing. Definitely ban/block-worthy, but still funny... Still, how does one proceed, once one has gathered incriminants?--172.171.196.5 06:39, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
The deletion sounds to have been the best action to take considering the information available. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about banning a user. I wonder if the person will give up and go away anytime soon, or if they'll hang around causing trouble for a long time yet to come. --Lesoria 12:38, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vetting a fansite

Hello, it's 172.andmanyanumber here, now Buinne. On the Avatar Talk page we've gotten a polite request for a new site inclusion. Avatarspirit.net I promised to find someone to co-vet it over a week ago, only to be derailed by niggling issues with my shiny new computer and real-life at large. So far they appear to still be constructing, but are quick with up-to-date news and files. They've even got transcripts. The one niggle I can see is a little content overlap with DH, but it appears to be up-and-up since they're affiliated. Thoughts?--Buinne 19:31, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm unfamiliar with the term "vet" used in this sense (although I take it they're not looking for an animal doctor for Appa and Momo). It sounds like you have a lot more free time than I do these days =P Any free time I have currently is going toward other things, which kind of means I have no free time presently. --Lesoria 01:16, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

"To thoroughly evaluate." :P Basically, I was asking for you to give the site a once-over and see if it's unique and informative enough, in your opinion, to link to. If you are busy, s'okay.--Buinne 03:07, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
