Is it really necessary to identify Fleisher right off the bat as Jewish? There are tons of Jewish musicians in the world, after all. It smacks a little of discrimination to me. Is Jimmy Carter labeled Southern Baptist as the very first thing about him? Sure, in each case it could or even should be mentioned, but I think it's really better to note the most important aspects of Fleisher: his gifts as a musician. How about "Leon Fleisher (born July 23, 1928) is an American-born pianist and conductor." Then sometime later maybe this side of him could be brought in.
