Leon Bourjade

Leon J-P Bourjade (1889-1924) was a leading French fighter pilot in World War I. Though studying for the priesthood in 1914, he entered the army and served as an artilleryman for nearly three years. He transferred to aviation in 1917 and joined Escadrille 152, where he led all of France's balloon busters. Of his 28 victories (8 shared) all but one were German "gasbags", including eight in October 1918.

After the war Bourjade returned to the clergy and died in New Guinea, ministering to the ill. He was 35
