This list shows the total running lengths of popular fantasy television and film series as of February 10, 2006. It separates canon and non-canon, where applicable. It also separates original canon from remakes. Note that this list contains only the officially released motion picture media (films, TV series, etc.) contained within the various fantasy series. [edit] Notes

  1.   Exactly what is and is not canon in the Highlander series is somewhat problematic. See Highlander canon.
  2.   While all Indiana Jones movies contain fantasy elements, many episodes of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV series don't.
  3.   Although Peter Jackson has expressed an interest in making a film of The Hobbit, the ownership of the film and distribution rights for The Hobbit is complex. No production can be planned until this is resolved, which has not yet happened.
  4.   The Hobbit and Return of the King were made for television by Rankin/Bass. The Lord of the Rings was made for theatrical release by Ralph Bakshi, in a very different style from the Rankin/Bass productions. There was no connection between the production of these adaptations, although they were released in proximity to each other and are currently sold as a DVD boxed set. See the individual articles for more information on the production history.
