Lemont, Pennsylvania

Lemont is a census-designated place (CDP) in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States and is the location of the only remaining granary in Pennsylvania. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,116 at the 2000 census.

Lemont is located at 40°48′36″N, 77°49′5″W (40.809911, -77.818152)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,116 people, 857 households, and 573 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 658.9/km² (1,703.1/mi²). There were 867 housing units at an average density of 270.0/km² (697.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.42% White, 1.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 2.17% Asian, 1.51% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.94% of the population.

There were 857 households out of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.1% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $55,875, and the median income for a family was $67,000. Males had a median income of $42,134 versus $31,447 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,253. About 5.5% of families and 7.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.2% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
