Leicester Humberstone Road railway station

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Humberstone Road station was a station to the north of Leicester, England.

It was built in 1839 for the Midland Counties Railway, which shortly joined the North Midland Railway and the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway to form the Midland Railway.

As Leicester spread, the former village of Humberstone was becoming a suburb and the station was used by commuters into the city. By the twentieth century they were travelling by bus or car and it closed in 1968. Very little trace of it now remains.

The line is now part of the Midland Main Line between Loughborough and Sawley
