Muhammad: Legacy of the Prophet is a documentary film that tells the story of the seventh century prophet who changed world history in 23 years, and continues to shapes the lives of more than 1.3 billion people. Three years in the making, the film takes viewers not only to ancient Middle Eastern sites where the Prophet Muhammad's story unfolds, but into the homes, mosques and workplaces of some of America's estimated seven million Muslim to discover the many ways in which they follow Muhammad's example. A KQED presentation, Muhammad: Legacy of the Prophet is produced by Kikim Media and Unity Productions Foundation: Executive Producers Michael Wolfe & Alex Kronemer.

Muhammad was originally broadcast nationwide on December 18, 2002 on PBS and has since been rebroadcast on well over 600 individual PBS stations. The U.S. viewership is estimated to be over 10 million. The documentary received worldwide broadcast in many languages on National Geographic International in December 2003 and many other countries.

Over 100 major newspapers including the New York Times, The Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, Reuters, and the Catholic News Service reviewed the film. PBS also received over 5,000 emails in the first two weeks after broadcast responding to the film.

Muhammad also included an educational outreach element to the film that was launched through IslamProject.org. The Islam Project's centerpiece were 30 community dialogues featuring civic leaders in major cities. In addition, the project also offered a dozen free lesson plans for teachers and students interested in educating themselves on Islam.
