Legends of Motorsport (band)

Legends of Motorsport is an Australian live band, performing on the Melbourne pub circuit and sometimes working as an opening act for visiting international bands.

History Rising from the ashes of Underpantshead, and forging their sound in the North Hobartian music scene around 1996/97, Legends of Motorsport's early work stemmed from slowed down grindcore riffs and explorations of mono-chordal songwriting. The original lineup was the core of Andy Christ (guitar/vox) and Ken Worthy (guitar) with Erik Simonsen on drums, who was replaced by D Molition (The Nation Blue) and then Mike the Hammer (Sandro, The Drones) before the band played any shows. The band experimented with rotating guest guitarists before inviting B Rock(in) to join. This triple guitar and drums line-up played extensively, touring Hobart and beyond. It was around this time that Christ introduced the now staple Farfisa organ to the Legends sound. When touring Melbourne the band would often get floating guest guitarists to fill in for the absent B Rock(in). Around 2000AD the Legends relocated to Melbourne and added Ben 'Lightnin Boy' Watkins (Warped/Osterberg) to the lineup. When a few months later Lightnin boy was too incapacited to make a gig the band recruited Honest Lee (Three/Private Benjamin/High Pass Filter/One Watt Sun) from the audience, a relationship which lasted over three years. It was this line up of keys, two guitars and drums that recorded the self titled EP and the follow up 'Beef with Cheese'. Shortly after this Whiskey Ago-Go took up drumming duties. Much touring ensued. When Honest Lee was drawn abroad by his producing duties Legends went on a brief hiatus, eventually filling the lead guitar spot with 2Stroke (Pillow). This lineup recorded the 'Warm Milk with Honey/Don't Need Love' single and the debut album 'Remnants from the Big Bang'. Team Legends continues to push the envelope, wherever it may be found...

Music Their music might broadly be described as rock, mangling a mixture of sixties garage surf music and seventies hard rock sludge with pop structures and a penchant for the danceable. The pinion of the sound is the vibey organ of frontman Richard Fyshwick, supported by the impossibly heavy fuzz guitar of Jean Claude Vangelis, driven by the bombastic drums of soulman Whiskey Ago-Go and garnished with the retarded avant-blues licks of 2Stroke. Of late Legends have supplemented their sound with the talents of Adam Simmons (Sax) and James Wilkinson (Trombone/Trumpet) of bucketrider infamy, and have been known to feature as many as ten guest lead guitarists onstage at the one time.
