I am a student at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. My chosen areas of study are Japanese (covering the Japanese language, Japanese literature, the culture of Japan and the history of Japan) and English literature. In a less formal capacity, I'd like to think of myself as a scholar of language (as well as linguistics), literature, culture and computer science. I fancy myself a writer, using much of my free time in writing fiction (especially fantasy and science fiction) and poetry. I also make a habit of aggregating data on topics that catch my eye, regarding much of the above with a focus on computer character encoding, especially the Unicode standard. During most of this, I listen to a rather eclectic bunch of music, ranging from Irish traditional music to indie rock. I am a moderate speaker of Japanese and German, and just beginning study of Irish. I claim Irish, German, Norwegian and Scottish descent.
