From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The movie Lt Adnan was filmed by director Aziz M. Osman and produced by Army Headquarters/Markas Tentera Darat of Malaysian Army. The movie is about a Adnan bin Saidi, a young Malay from Kajang, Selangor who had joined the Malay Regiment just before the Second World War broke out in Asia. By the time the war broke out, he had been promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant, and was the leader for Platoon C, 1st Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment. His exploits and bravery in combat while leading his platoon against the Japanese Imperial Army is legendary. His field of combat includes:
- Battle of Pasir Panjang
- Battle of Bukit Chandu
Both battles occurred during the Japanese Imperial Army campaign in the Battle of Singapore. He was later killed in action/executed after battle. Three versions of his death was recorded. However, official version will record that he was executed by Japanese troops in anger for his stubbornness in holding his position and inflicting large casualties on Japanese troops. General Tomoyuki Yamashita was said to have said that if there were ten more of Adnan in the British Colonial Forces in Malaya that time, he would have needed a total of ten divisions to conquer Malaya.
