[edit] History
The first flight of the Learjet 23 took place on October 7, 1963. Originally the jet was manufactured in Switzerland as SAAC-23, however due to a better market, production was shifted into the USA. This aircraft was designed and conceived by Dr.eng. Hans-Luzius Studer and was based on the single-seat combat aircraft FFA P-16 prototype.
With this jet a completely new market for fast and efficient business aircraft was opened. The LJ23 is considered as a model for a whole set of similar aeroplanes which are built even today.
The Learjet 23 was last built in 1966, as it was being replaced by the Learjet 24. A total of 104 model 23's were built. In 1998 there were still 39 LJ23's in use. Only 26 LJ23's have been lost through accidents.
