Lea Quezada (known as "Lea") is a contemporary R&B singer and songwriter, who was born in Queens, New York. As a child she looked to R&B singers of the 1980s and 1990s like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. A chance meeting introduced her to Lil Flip and she had a number two hit with him on the song Sunshine (not to be confused with Coko's ballad of the same name). The sexy songstress helped make Sunshine number 1 on BETs 106 and Park, and MTVs Direct Effect. The song was also number 2 on the Billboard top 100 chart, reaching a radio audience of over 114 million, certifying it as 2004s summer anthem. Lea later got her own recording contract with Blackground Records. An album is scheduled for release in 2006. Since December a new song called I'm Gone has been played on Music Choice, which may be the first single off her new CD. Lea is currently working on her Blackground debut album.

[edit] Early life

Her love of singing began as a child splitting time between Queens and Brooklyn. At the age of four, she would sing along to the latest songs on the radio, sometimes performing classics by Anita Baker, New Edition, Whitney Houston and Lisa Lisa. During her teen years she worked odd jobs to make ends meet. However, juggling jobs didn't satisfy her desire to sing. She then pursued her music career searching for a connection in the music industry. Lea was determined to make her mark in music. Like all stars, her hard work and perseverance paid off when she ran into a little luck in the form of the man who would bring out her potential as an artist. Barry Hankerson, the president of Blackground Records, home to many artists including Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, Tank, and JoJo was blown away when he first heard her demo. The relationship between Blackground and Lea has allowed her to develop her artistry as a singer with openness and creativity. The commitment and dedication of Barry Hankerson and the Blackground staff is evident on the pairing of her with Lil Flip, making "Sunshine" an incredible success, and is also proof positive on her album. With over a half a million mobile ring tones sold and a credible street buzz, her first quarter debut will definitely be a solid success.
