Leça Futebol Clube it's a sport's club from Leça da Palmeira, a parish(freguesia) from Matosinhos city.

The club is most know by the football team that, in the present is competing in Portuguese third division. Not many years ago the team was, in fact in Portuguese 1st league (from 95/96 to 98/99 season) but a decision taken by the federation based in past acts of corruption decided to relegate Leça FC to Liga de Honra. The team was expecting to fight for the promotion but, the efforts were not enough to bring the team to the top level again. In the upcoming years the club was affacted by some financial problems that cut some of the desire of wanting the team back to the top. Because of the teams lower budget new goals where set. The main goal was now to make the club financially secure, and then try to put the team back on the 1st league. But bad maneging of the financial status by the presidents (it has been related that some of the presidents stole money from the club to use in its own benefit), unpayed wages to the tem professionals, unqualified team coaches (some people say tha one of the coaches was in fact an alcoholic and drink addict) and sometimes only very bad luck the team ended following in the "abyss" of third division. Since then they've been dubbed as strong candidates to promotion, but never confirmed the expectations finishung in midtable and surprisingly sometimes near the bottom of the table. The team plays in Estádio do Leça FC with the capacity of 18.000.
