LC Barrow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LC Barrow (1913-1979) was the brother of Clyde Barrow (of Bonnie and Clyde fame) and Buck Barrow. Born into a poor farming family amongst the Texas cotton fields along with his seven other siblings, he was a rarity as his mother actually remembered his birth. It appears that LC was his actual name, as it appears on census records.

Of strict Southern Baptist upbringing, the boys sprang from the fields and into prison. Cumie Barrow, the mother, was unsure who among her children was born when. Life in the fields was so tough that many of the women were known to trade their children off for the price of a clean pair of shorts.

Life in the fields was particularly hard on the pasty skinned Barrows, who, rather than attain a sun-tan, would attract a reddish tinge, somewhat like a Lobster. This was typical of many of the Texas descendants of Irish stock, and from whence sprang the term "Redneck". To accompany this strange hue were a foul mouth and a low I.Q.

His life was uneventful. Sneak thief type crimes seemed to be second nature to the Barrows, and LC was no acception. By 1961, he was forgotten (except, perhaps, by the F.B.I., who kept a file on him.) He surfaced on the set of the movie, approaching actor Gene Hackman with a toothless grin and an old hat covering his galloot ears, but went unnoticed. He passed away in 1979.

The concepts of birth control were a foreign language to the illiterate Barrows, who, due to their harsh Texas drawl appeared to be speaking a foreign language themselves.
