• In paleontology, a Lazarus taxon is a taxon that disappears from one or more periods of the fossil record, only to appear again later, thus giving the impression of life coming back from the dead.

The name "Lazarus" is popular in fiction to name anything relating to reviving the dead or prolonging human life. A number of fictional devices that accomplish these goals, of immortal characters, and of shows discussing eternal life, share the name "Lazarus".
