Layla, Ar Riyad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Layla is an ancient town in Saudi Arabia.
Layla is located at Ar Riyad Province, some 330 km south of the capital, Riyadh. It is believed to have been named after a girl (Layla Al-Ameria) beloved of Qais bin Al Mulawah, also known as Majnoun Layla ("Crazy/fond of Layla"), an Islamic-era poet. The story was chronicled by Persian poet Nezami in Layla and Majnun. Several tribes governed the town across two millennia, including sons of Kaab bin Amer, then Bani Akeel. The nobilities of the town today are the Al-Sedara. The population is nearly 76,000. Layla neighbours a lake of the same name.
, in the Al-Aflaj region,Mohammed Abdu, a Saudi Arabian vocalist, performed a very well-known song ("Bent Al-Noor") that many dancers and musicians in the United States know as "Layla, Layla". The song had echoed and been imitated from Israel to the US.
