[edit] From the Islands or New York City?

I read over at IMDb.com that LHJ was born in St. Thomas, but on another it says he was born in NYC. Anyone know which one is correct?

Nevertheless, from VI Online: People from the Virgin Islands are called Virgin Islanders and based on the island of residence are called St. Thomian, St. Johnian, Crucian and Water Islanders respectively. So out of respect to his heritage, I don't think it's right to refer to him as African-American, though I don't think there's a Virgin Islanders category here on Wikipedia? [edit] IMDB is wrong.

I am a direct relative of LHJ and I can tell you that he was born in New York City, NY, USA. The constant confusion only comes out of the fact that his parents, and some other members of our family originally hail from the United States Virgin Islands. Lawrence is American-born, like most others in the succeding generations of our family. He and I are working to get the IMDB to change its information on him. By adhereing to or posting falsified information, you are not "respecting his hetitage", but doing the exact opposite.
