[edit] Overview

Chou was born in Hong Kong on April 19, 1979. He has one older sister and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. Around the young age of 15, little Lawrence started participating in Karaoke contests and even won a few championships. Around the age of 16, from 1995 to 1997, he joined a Canada dance troupe and publicly performed about 250 times a year. Around the age of 19, he launched his singing career when he released his first Mandarin single "Don't Be A Fool", and then his first Mandarin album I LOVe YOU.

Eventually, he ventured into the movie industry after releasing his last compilation album People Says in 2000. His debut movie Merry Go Round had him nominated as Best New Artist in the 21st Annual Hong Kong Film Awards. Since his debut in the movie industry from 2001 to now, he has appeared in Asian movies like The Eye, If u care..., Truth or Dare: 6th Floor Rear Flat, The Death Curse, and Dragon Squad alongside big name stars.

During his entertainment industry career, he was also better known as Mavis Fan's (范晓萱) boyfriend. She was a Taiwanese pop singer that was two years older than Lawrence. Their romance began around the time Lawrence launched his singing career in 1998 and eventually ended in 2003. The reason they broke up was because there was some disagreements in lifestyle after living apart in two places for a long time. Lawrence and Mavis both first met on stage in Vancouver. Mavis met Lawrence through Lawrence's mother (who was handling the staging activities). It was a girl-after-boy and older-girl-younger-boy kind of love relationship.

  • A romantic kind of guy, he declared his love to Mavis when she came out with a new album: "Mavis, I want us to be together!" and even wearing couple outfits while holding their pet dog as they walked the red carpet for the Taiwan Great Hit Award.
  • Mavis once had a thought of breaking up with Lawrence because she said he was too good to her. She had a melancholy disease (有憂鬱症) and got depressed over little things. Lawrence would help her by being her psychologist and even read a lot of psychology books. Mavis said, "Because feeling he was too good, always allowing me to torture him, I get worried about him, that's why I would have this thought."
  • The first time Lawrence saw Mavis was at KTV, "that is because a friend had picked her song, that's when I knew of this person, started liking her from that moment on, felt she was exactly the type I liked."
