(October 16, 1979-April 1, 2005) was the Romanian-born widow of a Maine National Guard Soldier, Christopher Gelineau , who was killed when a roadside bomb destroyed his Humvee on April 20, 2004. Lavi was devoted to Chris and when he was killed, she sunk into a deep depression and felt she'd never be happy again. In the aftermath of Chris' death, her friends watched helplessly as Lavi struggled to get out of bed and had to be spoonfed.
Lavi gradauted with a double major in English and Business, and was fluent in five languages. While Chris was deployed, Lavi worked and pursued dual Master's Degrees in International Business and French. She accepted a diploma for her husband in May during her own graduation from the University of Southern Maine . She also spoke out against the war that took her husband's life. With her husband's life insurance money, Lavi purchased her own house, the one in which she was ultimately murdered.
She was found dead along with her father Nicolae Onitiu (51), who had a history of domestic violence, in the basement of her own house in Westbrook, Maine in what is ruled a murder-suicide. Signs indicate Lavi was severely beaten by her father in her kitchen, then dragged down to her basement, where she was strangled with a clothesline. Onitiu then smoked a cigarette and hanged himself. She was 25 years old and loved very much.
