As Laurie"the Deepminded", I presently administrate Runegame.com The Official Website of "RUNE" and "Rune:Halls of Valhalla" computer games developed by Human Head Studios Where I have been actively involved for the past six years since joining the website in February 2000. In March 2000, the head Administrator (Tricia "Kazi_Wren" Serju) asked me to help her as website co-Administrator and forums moderator.
Kazi_Wren introduced me to the Human Head Studios game development team shortly afterwards. From my years as a Living History Reenactor, I contributed to Rune's development as the team's Historical Advisor. This done by offering suggestions or answering any questions the developers had about aspects of Viking Age cosmology and culture as would be helpful. Also contributed various Viking Age articles and essays to Runegame.com's Viking Myth page as background information to educate players about Viking Age life, beliefs or history in general.
When not acting as "Runegame Goddess" and forums moderator, I act as the resident "Viking Answer Lady" answering any questions or posting relevant information in a seperate board in the Runegame.com forums.
As an avid computer gamer since 1993, I believe Wikipedia computer and video games pages do help dispel many negative preconceived notions about this extremely popular recreation. As a parent, the pages provide immediate information about many games that are currently played (or have been played) by their children, young and old. Computer and video games cannot be used as a babysitter. Nor is every game suitable for all ages. Although the industry has imposed it's own suitability restrictions for years, it is still up to the parent to be aware of what is being played.
Yet computer and video game playing can lead to better understanding through shared enjoyment by both parent and child.
