Lauriston Girls School is a private girls school in Melbourne, Australia.

It educates co-educationaly from three-year-old-kindergarten prep, and is then girls only to year 12. It offers both the Victorian Certificate of Education and the International Baccalaureate (IB). With a particularly successful IB programme, Lauriston is considered one of Melbourne's 'elite' girls schools.

Lauriston is notable from other Australian private schools due to its lack of church affiliation. While most Australian private schools are heavily associated with, if not founded by a particular branch of church, Lauriston prides itself in being completely non-denominational.

[edit] Campus

Lauriston's main campus is located in Armadale, seven km from the Melbourne CBD. The Armadale campus is architecturally interesting because it comprises not only classic Victorian buildings (such as Montrose in the primary school area) but also newer buildings such as a science and technology center constructed from energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly materials. Years kindergarten through 12, excluding year 9, are educated at the Armadale campus.

It also has a boarding campus, Howqua, near the town of Mansfield in the Victoria countryside. The entire year 9 program is conducted here, and the year 9 girls spend the whole year at Howqua, it is a significant part of Lauriston life. It is similar to Timbertop run by Geelong Grammar School.

[edit] Results

Almost all Lauriston graduates achieve high ENTER and IB scores. In 2005 two students scored 99.95 per cent. Fifteen per cent received a score of 99.5 or more, and 50 per cent scored 95 per cent or higher. Lauriston is one of the few schools in the world that has consistently achieved a perfect score of 45 in almost every year that it has run the IB programme.
