Prof. Em. Lauri Vaska (born 7 May 1925) was a young assistant professor of Chemistry at the Texas A&M University, when in the early 1960s he, in a joint article with J.W. Di Luzio, first described the iridium compound, which has now become known as the Vaska's complex.

Vaska was born in Rakvere, Estonia and moved to the US after World War II. After a successful career on several American universities, he is now Emeritus Professor, connected to Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York and living in the area.
