The Laurentian Leadership Centre program, an extension of Trinity Western University, offers the rare opportunity for third and forth year students to experience a fully-credited semester of study as well as a presitigous Parliamentary internship one of two national capitals: Ottawa and London, England. Although the program is open to students of any major, it is primarly designed for those who plan a career in political science, business, communications, computing science, history, European studies, or international studies.

[edit] LLC - Ottawa

The original LLC is located on Parliament Hill, Ottawa. The 20 students accepted to the program each semester take 3 academic courses in: Canadian Governmental Leadership, Ethics & Public Affairs, and Law & Public Policy. Courses are taught both by TWU professors as well as international leaders and guest speakers.

The internship program is the distinguishing feature of the Laurentian Leadership Centre. With the LLC exectutive director, the student creates a customized internship placement relevant to his or her academic or career interest. Internships fall into a number of categories: government, corporate, media, communications, and non-governmental. Previous internships have included: the Prime Minister's Office, foreign embassies, offices of Members of Parliament and Senators, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mitel, World Vision, Make Poverty History,National Arts Centre, RBC Financial, the Ottawa Citizen newspaper, and a variety of others.

While participating in the program, students reside in an historic mansion on prominent Metcalfe Street, the famous Booth House, which is listed as a national historic site.

Set to open Fall term, 2008, the LLC London offers TWU students the opportunity to live and learn in the national capital of the United Kingdom. Students take the following courses: British Governmental Leadership; Law, Public Policy and Cultural Change in Britain; and Shaping the British Landscape: Politics, History, and Economics & Philosophy. This third course is taught via the traditional Oxford tutorial style, offering a uniquely British aspect to the academic element of the program.

Students live in a brick mansion in Highgate Village, in north London, a short tube ride away from the Houses of Parliament.


Internship opportunities are available at: the British Parliament, MI6, the National Health Service, the British Museum, Royal Festival Hall, the BBC and other media outlets, as well as several other potential positions.

[edit] Access Ottawa

Access Ottawa is a one-week experiential learning program for high school students in grades 10, 11 and 12. Started in 2006 by three President's Office Interns at Trinity Western University, Access Ottawa brings high school students from across the country to study faith, politics, and citizenship in the Canada's capital.

The program typically runs through the months of April and May. Students spend the week living at the historic Laurentian Leadership Centre of Trinity Western University, formerly known as the Booth House, and touring Ottawa museums and attractions, meeting with government officials and non-governmental office dignitaries, and engaging in interactive workshops to discuss issues in Canadian politics.
