[edit] Amateur career

As an international player for Great Britain, Davies accumulated a notable record during her amateur career. She won the 1983 English Intermediate Championship, the 1984 Welsh Open Stroke Play Championship, the South Eastern Championship in both 1983-84 and was also a member of the Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup Team in 1984. She turned professional in 1985.

[edit] Professional career

As of the start of the 2006 season, Davies has accumulated 20 official victories on the LPGA Tour. She finished top of the money list in 1994 and was second in each of the following two years. At the same date she had more than 37 victories on the Ladies European Tour and she topped that tour's order of merit a record 7 times in 1985, 1986, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2006. Davies is also the only player to participate in all nine Solheim Cup teams to date (1990-2005) on either the United States or European side.

In 2004 Davies was the first woman to compete in the men's European Tour, entering the ANZ Championship in Sydney, Australia. She failed to make the cut, finishing second to last. Two years later, Michelle Wie tried to best Davies' finish on the same tour but finished dead last at the Omega European Masters. Davies still holds the record for the highest finish by a woman on the European Tour.

Davies was awarded an OBE in 1988 and a CBE in 2000.
