[edit] Laub, Laube

Das Laub means leaf or foliage, and besides corresoponding to English word leaf, leaves.

But Yiddish word לױבּ loyb means praise (das Lob). (Possibly, when eastern Yiddish speaker says about leaves, uses "blat/blatt (cf.blade)" at all times, and no other froms)

According to Nelly Weiss, Jewish surname Laube comes from French word "l'aube (means dawn, daybreak, daylight; cf.Morgenthau, Morgenstern, Sonnenschein, shaharit)".
