[edit] Plot
The miniseries begins with Reed and Sue Richards investigating some strange matters in outer space. However, when an alien vessel heads straight toward the sun, Reed realizes that the entire Earth might be in danger. Attempting to warn the world about this incoming danger, Reed’s ship is seemingly destroyed before the message can be sent.
The occupant of the alien vessel is revealed to be Dominas the Wavemaster, a Herald of Galactus. Dominas flies toward the Shi'ar Empire where he battles Gladiator and the rest of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. However, the battle is not as easy as it first seems, and the entire Shi’ar is threatened to fall.
On Earth, the rest of the Fantastic Five receive Reed’s transmission. They rush into a rescue operation, while Doom stays behind in case another emergency rises up. He informs A-Next about the current situation, but they are busy dealing with their lifelong adversaries, the Red Queen and her Revengers. Jarvis sends them the emergency call and Stinger calls her team back, realizing that protecting the Earth is more important than the Revengers.
Vision discusses matters with G.W. Bridge, current President of the United States, who is not sure how to handle things.
At Barton’s Dojo, American Dream is being trained by both Freebooter and Hawkeye and is uncertain about her role as a superhero, doubting about quitting or not. At school, May Parker chats with her friends about recent events and later leaves to perform her daily role as Spider-Girl.
Dominas continues to wreak havoc at the Shi’ar Empire, and his master Galactus threatens to devour it completely. While Lilandra runs into safety, her Imperial Guard do their best to protect her. Despite the Guards’ efforts, Galactus succeeds in his plan and completely eats the empire. With his hunger still not satisfied, Galactus decides to absorb Asgard as well.
After Spider-Girl defeats some street thugs, A-Next calls for help. The Fantastic Five head to the spot where Reed and Sue’s ship was destroyed, but there is nothing there, not a single star. However, they receive a signal and head straight toward it.
Meanwhile, Thor leads his mighty warriors into battle against Galactus. Galactus sends for his robotic troops to protect him. Spider-Girl arrives at Avengers Compound, and so does the Vision. Vision has already send Nova and Earth Sentry into space to investigate matters. He orders the other A-Next members to wait. Things get worse when the Revengers show up again and A-Next want to take them down, but Vision refuses to allow this because of presidential orders.
The gods realize they are outmatched against Galactus. While Thor is taken prisoner by Galactus, the other Asgardians escape. Dominas also apprehends the Odinsword for its cosmic power. With the sword found, Galactus absorbs the entire world of Asgard.
Back on Earth, Vision has agreed to send in a few members of A-Next to battle the Revengers, namely Spider-Girl, Mainframe and Thunderstrike. As Thunderstrike faces Sabreclaw, he suddenly loses his powers due to the demise of Asgard. As Thunderstrike's secret identity is revealed, Spider-Girl and the rest decide to let the Revengers escape to bring their teammate into safety.
In outer space, Galactus notices the “Captain America star” hanging in Earth orbit and thinks this might be the clue for his Final Solution.
Dominas gains word about the Watcher and destroys the moon, while he is still on it.
As the Fantastic Five has hoped, the signal came from Reed and Sue. Sue had created a force field to protect them both while their ship exploded around them. Once the F5 find their missing teammates, they contact the President about the situation and head back home to help deal with it.
The mightiest entities on the MC2 world gather and agree to work together to stop Galactus, knowing that if he absorbs the world, they will be destroyed as well. While they fight the planet devourer, Reed activates a weapon he built after Galactus arrived on Earth the first time, so they had a defense weapon just in case. The other heroes do their best to make the weapon even stronger, but it does not appear to be effective, as Galactus destroys the elders and arrives on Earth.
Galactus’ arrival caused tremendous planetwide destruction and chaos. While the heroes do their best to keep everyone safe, Dominas reveals that Galactus plans to destroy the entire universe so a new “Big Bang” can take place and an entire new universe can be formed.
The Silver Surfer learns about his former master’s plans, and he arrives on Earth to deal with it. He and Dominas face each other. The Surfer triumphs, absorbing Dominas’ powers, becoming even more powerful than before. He then focuses on Galactus. The Fantastic Five, A-Next, X-People and Revengers all team-up to stop Galactus. However, as the Surfer eventually faces Galactus, he manages to merge together with him and gains control over Galactus’ body and powers. Restoring the damage Galactus caused with his new powers, the super-“Surfer” flies back into space in order to discover who he is right now, and what he can do.
As the heroes watch the Surfer leave, new allies are made, while some may only last for a while, and others will be further explored in the future. They look upon the sky, and see the Captain America star once again.

[edit] Trivia
- When this mini-series was first introduced to the fans, it was revealed by Marvel that the series would be the final adventures of the MC2 universe. Likewise, in the ongoing Spider-Girl series, a storyline took place in which she was supposed to die. When the fans "revolted" against this decision, it was quickly made clear that the final pages of the miniseries still were not completed and that if this series would be received well among the public, the MC2 universe would be spared. With many unresolved plot lines, and Last Planet Standing being well-received, it was decided to let the MC2 universe continue. While the original Spider-Girl series would be cancelled by issue #100, a few months later it was relaunched as Amazing Spider-Girl #1. [citation needed]
- This series introduces G. W. Bridge, a longtime X-Men character, as the first African American President of the United States.
