Lashing

Lashing can refer to:

  • A means to secure cargo, for instance: stevedores lash containers to the deck of a ship to prevent them from being swept out to sea in a storm. Such lashing implements can be steel bars that are tightened by turnbuckles.
  • In flagellation, the infliction of lashes, i.e. cuts strokes with a painful implement.
  • Students may use lashing as a term to describe consumption of alcohol at great speed.
