Lasell College

Lasell College, founded in 1851 as a small women's college in Newton, Massachusetts became coeducational in 1998. It became a four-year college in 1989. As of 2006 Lasell has 1200 undergraduate students and a smaller graduate program in business management.
The most prominent academic major at Lasell College is Fashion Design. Lasell is well known for Connected Learning.
The Smashing Pumpkins wore Lasell designs to VH1's 1998 Fashion Awards.
Lasell College created a retirement community, Lasell Village, to raise additional revenues but managed to keep its nonprofit status with the City of Newton. The Boston Globe headlined the controversy, "Lasell tax-case ruling is one for the textbooks."
