Larry Wachs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Larry Wachs is a member of the once popular Atlanta Morning Radio Show "The Regular Guys" on 96 Rock along with Eric Von Haessler. Wachs' career before Atlanta included stops as a Top 40 disc jockey at WBLI in Long Island (as "Larry Addams"), WBSB (B104) in his hometown of Baltimore, WEGX (Eagle 106) in Philadelphia (as "Fast Larry Wax"), WPXY in Rochester, and WTIC-FM in Hartford, and as a talk host at KLSX in Los Angeles. He was teamed on and off with Eric Von Haessler during his tenure at the later three. From early 2004 to early 2005, Wachs and Von Haessler were off the air due to controversy. A new controversy in October 2006 forced the duo off the air yet again.

[edit] The Backwards Porn Incident

Wachs was fired in early 2004 for an incident called the "Backwards Porn" stunt, which involved porn star Devin Lane. In the incident, Wachs and Von Haessler were to air explicit material, but play it backwards. This was to avoid and at the same time mock the FCC's regulations, which, at the time, were in the middle of much controversy. But the incident went wrong when, during a commercial break, a mic was accidentally left on. Listeners could hear, over a Honda motorcycle commercial, the porn star talking with the DJ's about explicit matters. Never fined for violations of FCC regulations, Wachs and his fellow DJ Von Haessler were still fired. Wachs returned to airwaves on March 21, 2005 on AM 640 WGST. He later returned to WKLS on May 2, 2005.

Larry Wachs has several nicknames on the show, most revolving around his Jewish background, including "Jew Daddy" and "Jew Turtle."

[edit] Misc. Information

In 2005, after contemplating how people enjoy watching animals and such in their natural habitat, Larry argued that the same would apply to humans. This started what is known as "WWEC" or the "Watch Wachs Eat Club". The general idea is that people turnout to wherever restaurant he is eating at and watch him eat.

Wachs is extremely critical of left-wing controlled areas of the media and often shows his disdain of such outlets on his show. Wachs himself is very conservative, yet not nearly as conservative as many people who are branded as such are. He and Eric Von Haessler often get into arguments, not only with each other, but with other callers over political and social issues.

Inspired by radio show host, Howard Stern, Wachs mentions his family quite often on the show and occasionally broadcasts them in phone calls on his show. Stern himself has been a topic of discussion and parody on the show also, often times poking fun at the fact that the Regular Guys regularly steal his material.

Wachs has had an on again/off again feud on-air with Ben the Bunnyman. He often mocks Ben and has even gone as far as (jokingly) replacing with fellow hairlipped personality "Bob The Bunnyman". After the Ben and Bob feud settled (as it was revealed that Bob was stinted personality "Pumper The Free Gas Fairy"), Larry took Ben to Regular Guys court. * More info here.
