Larry Siegel

Larry Siegel is a comedy writer who was one of the "Usual Gang of Idiots" at MAD Magazine from 1958 to 1990.
At MAD, Siegel had an aggressive writing style that did not shy away from being occasionally provocative or inflammatory to make a point. He was fond of attacking purveyors of bad taste, such as tabloid newspaper publishers and "shock" hosts, by attempting to outdo them. As a regular contributor of movie and television parodies, he mocked Bonnie and Clyde's glorification of violence and concluded his version of Hogan's Heroes by transplanting it from a prisoner of war camp to a concentration camp.
He also was one of the few MAD writers to compete in the realm of rewritten song lyrics (normally the bailiwick of Frank Jacobs), for example rewriting The Sound of Music as "The $ound of Money."
He was closely associated with another MAD writer, Stan Hart; while the two wrote separately for the magazine, both contributed to the off-Broadway musical The Mad Show, and later to The Carol Burnett Show (for which they won multiple Emmy Awards) and the TV series Wonder Woman.
