[edit] Lead Guitar, Lap Steel Guitar, Cuatro, Mandolin. Producer/Musician/Songwriter/Backup Vocals

Larry is perhaps best known for his sonic inventiveness. For years, audiences have been amazed by his ability to produce incredibly varied textures from a Fender Strat and a relatively simple effects rack. His intuitive grasp of the inner workings of signal processing devices and the subsequent musical applications he has developed have greatly expanded the vocabulary of the electric guitar.

Longtime Chaney fans will remember the infamous "table rack" of the early 80's. The rack was filled with various boxes built or modified by Larry, resulting in otherworldly sounds that other guitarists are still trying to emulate more than a decade later. The advances in technology since have kept Larry in the forefront of new guitar sounds, all the while emphasizing the musicality of his innovations rather than using "effects for effects sake."

Larry has recorded with contemporary folk and acoustic artists such as David Wilcox, Laine Marsh, and Buddy Mondlock. He also co-wrote and co-produced a track on new age artist Giles Reaves' album "Nothing is Lost" for the MCA Master Series label. He has played on albums by rockers Johnny Van Vant & ex-J. Geils front man Peter Wolf, and R&B standouts Tracey Nelson & Johnny Neel. Larry's love for the exotic sounds of jazz, Latin, and world music led him to Tone Patrol in 1987, and later the salsa big band Orkesta Mondo Pingius, where he can be heard playing the traditional tres and cuatra, in addition to acoustic & electric guitar.

In January 1997, Guitar Player Magazine named Larry as one of music's "30 Most Innovative Guitarists" in their 30th Anniversary Issue.

Chaney is currently recording and touring as a member of Vanguard Records' Edwin McCain Band. When not with EMB, Larry can be found in Wimberley, Texas, quietly & consistently turning in some of the most creative & tasteful guitar work to be found anywhere in the universe.

Along with the many CD’s recorded as a member of Edwin McCain Band, 30 years experience as a musician and producer has resulted in several other CD’s, including his solo project, “Audio Taco.” Recently, Larry and band mate, Craig Shields, have finished working on their sax & guitar Jazz/Bossa Nova project. The new 10-song CD titled, "Dois Gemeos" {2 Geminis} is available now.
