Larag

Larag was an ancient Sumerian city also known as Larak. Its name means "House of Light" in Sumerian. Its Semitic name was Ellasar or Larsa. The city was also Bit-Shamash (House of the Sun). According to Sumerian mythology, the city was created by Pabilsag, the god of trees. Its actual location in south Iraq has not been found yet, but it is between the old cities Sippar (modern Tell Abu-Habbah ) and Shuruppak (modern Fara).
