Langage Power Station is to be constructed near the city of Plymouth in Devon.

Centrica, owners of the site, announced on 16 June 2006 that the gas fired power station is to be constructed and operated on their behalf by Alstom. The 885MW plant is expected to cost £400m and to start generating in late 2008. Planning permission was granted in 2000.

Langage is the first new power station to be built in the UK for 5 years. More may follow in order to fill the projected 'energy gap' in UK generating capacity, caused by the expected closure of nuclear and older coal fired stations.
