Landvetter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Landvetter is a town in the Swedish municipality Härryda. This second largest town in the municipality has given its name to the international airport Gothenburg-Landvetter airport. The reason for this, is that the municipality name contained a 'ä' character, i.e. one a with an umlaut and thus was unsuitable for international use.
The name Landvetter is a combination of "land" (land) and "vittir", an old Swedish name for a certain type of fire.
In the year 2002, the population was 8,137 individuals.
