Landing Zone X-Ray
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Landing Zone X-Ray, located several dozen miles south of Pleiku and west of Duc Co in Vietnam, is a historic battleground which was fought over during the Vietnam War, and also during the several wars which took place in the Ming Dynasty between China (Zhongguo) and Vietnam (Yuenan). The name of the location comes from the US Army's code name for a helicopter landing zone during actions there by the 1st US Air Cavalry Division in 1965 during the Ia Drang battle.
[edit] The General Locale
Landing Zone X-Ray (LZXRAY) is a field of tall elephant grass located near a mountain and a river. The region is almost completely covered in Elephant grass, infested with insects, and inhospitable to humans. Despite a water source running through the area, there are few animals. Visitors need a special permit from the Vietnamese government.
