[edit] History
The federal government introduced local government reforms in the year 2000, which eliminated the previous third tier of government (administrative divisions) and raised the fourth tier (districts) to become the new third tier. The effect in Karachi was the dissolution of the former Karachi Division and the merger of its five districts to form a new Karachi City-District with eighteen autonomous constituent towns including Landhi Town.
[edit] Neighbourhoods of Landhi Town
Note:The neighbourhood of Korangi should not be confused with Korangi Town which lies to the southwest of the neighbourhood.
The town of Landhi has some poorer areas which grew haphazardly and are referred to as katchi abadi which translates roughly as shanty towns. This includes the neighbourhoods of Dawood Chowrangi, Moinabad, Muslimabad and Muzafarabad which form a cluster in the east of the town. The neighbourhood of Sharafi Goth in the north of the town along the Malir River is the least densely populated neighbourhood.
[edit] Trade and industry
Landhi Town includes one of the four largest industrial estates in Karachi and will be the site of a new 250-acre industrial estate for small and medium businesses. The industrial estate benefits from the proximity of Port Qasim and Jinnah International Airport as well as rail and road links to the rest of Pakistan.
