Land battleship
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Gundam anime series, very large tanks of comparable size and complexity to naval warships are called Land Battleships. The designation is also sometimes applied to large armored hovercraft. Land battleships are a staple of Gundam, they have appeared in nearly every Gundam series to date (though absent in Gundam Wing and G Gundam). A land battleship typically has many crew members and carries large-caliber naval guns (for example, Gundam SEED's Lesseps class includes three triple 16-inch gun turrets). Some land battleships are also capable of travelling over water (especially in Gundam X, where all land battleships have this ability), but tend to be slower in the water than dedicated naval vessels.
Similar vehicles also exist in Other fictional series's as well. The later marks of the Bolo tanks in Keith Laumer's novel series of the same name are similar to warships in size and firepower, and Land Battleships also appear in works ranging from Warhammer 40,000 to Super Robot Wars. in the tabletop wargame Heavy Gear, they are called "Landships".
