From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lancelot William Joynson-Hicks, 3rd Viscount Brentford (10 April 1902 – 25 February 1983) was a Conservative politician and member of Parliament for Chichester from 1942 to 1958.
Joynson-Hicks was the second son of former Home Secretary William Joynson-Hicks, 1st Viscount Brentford and Grace Lynn Joynson. He was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Oxford, later becoming a solicitor and a farmer. He served in World War II as a lieutenant-commander in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.
From 1951 to 1955 he was a government minister in the Ministry of Fuel and Power. Upon the death of his older brother, Richard Cecil Joynson-Hicks, 2nd Viscount Brentford, in 1958 he became 3rd Viscount Brentford, and also inherited the Baronetcy. Because he was now a Lord, he vacated his seat in the House of Commons.
Upon his death in 1983, he was succeeded as Viscount Brentford by his only child, Crispin William Joynson-Hicks, 4th Viscount Brentford.
