Lancair
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lancair International, Inc. (pronounced ‘lance-air’) is a leading manufacturer of general aviation aircraft located in Bend, Oregon USA. The company was founded by Lance Neibauer in 1981 as a producer of composite homebuilt aircraft kits. As the designs proved highly popular, Lancair added FAA-certified aircraft to their production line in 1994. In July 2005, the certified aircraft division was spun off into a separate company called Columbia Aircraft.
Lancair designs are performance-oriented; they cruise at high speeds on a moderate amount of power. The Lancair IV-P and Propjet are, unusually for homebuilt aircraft, equipped with cabin pressurization.
Columbia Aircraft's production designs incorporate many of the innovative elements popular in the kits, including side-mounted control sticks and a glass cockpit.
