Firstly,

0.999... + 0.111... = 1

as 9 + 1 = 10 is trivially true. Then, as

0.999... = 1

(see Proof that 0.999... equals 1) we can equate both sides leaving

0.999... + 0.111... = 0.999...

which, after subtracting 0.999... from both sides cancels to:

0.111... = 0

QED. *cough*
