It should also be noted that the Nerds did not send in a group picture to the national Tri-Lam office, thus clinching their probational charter (see 1st movie).

I think it's interesting that the Lambda letter has become a symbol for Gay pride, it is not explicitly noted in the movie, but it's interesting to compare it to the struggle and segregation of different oppressed minorities, (blacks, gays, nerd) that's a major theme of the movie, one of the nerds is a weak and feminine black gay, by the way.
