Lament (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Lament" is the name of a song by British band, The Cure. There are two distinct versions of the song, one called "Lament (Flexipop)" from a single featured in a music magazine and "LaMent" from the compilation album, Japanese Whispers. Both versions are featured on the b-side and rarities collection, Join the Dots. It has been performed on only two tours by the band: a few times in 1983, and frequently in 1990, as is evidenced by several bootleg recordings.
The earlier version, "Lament (Flexipop)" features Robert Smith, Steve Severin on bass, and a drum machine. According to the interviews within the Join the Dots booklet, it was done very quickly and under the influence of several drugs. The lyrics are very garbled, to the point of being unintelligible.
The later version features the complete band and is much more coherent. The lyrics are understandable and the music sounds much less harsh.
