Lambengolmor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien, the Lambengolmor were the Loremasters of the Elves. The singular form of this Quenya word is Lambengolmo. It is a compound of lambe, tongue, and n(g)olmo, loremaster (from the same root NGOL, having to do with "knowledge", that also yields the word Noldor).

The Lambengolmor were skilled linguists and historians, and created many works about the Elves and their languages.

Known members were Rúmil, who invented the first alphabet; Fëanor, inventor of the Tengwar; and Pengolodh, who is credited with many works the Silmarillion was based on.

Lambengolmor is also the name of a mailing list for the scholarly study and discussion of the invented languages of Tolkien, launched by Carl F. Hostetter of the E. L. F. on 29 May 2002. (List homepage: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lambengolmor/ ), and of a wikia [1].
