From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Social club information
Formal "Social Clubs" as officially-recognized groups at universities and colleges in the United States are usually found only at conservative Christian institutions which do not intend to allow local chapters of national fraternities and sororities. At Faulkner there are ten clubs (as of August 17, 2005), five male and five female, that participate in intramural activities and service opportunities around the campus and off. Each male club has a "sister" club that it is directly affiliated with (and vice versa). There are two divisions of the clubs at Faulkner that are used for athletic competition, a male and female division.
[edit] Brief history
The club was reformed under "new management" with Keith Long as its President in April, 2002. Members of other social clubs on Faulkner's campus "jumped" to Lambda (as it is called for short) in order to help a club that was on the verge of having its charter revoked and to attempt to reinvent the way clubs were seen on campus.
- The original "jumpers" and their previously associated clubs:
- Jake Campbell; Epsilon Phi Upsilon (Ε Φ Υ)
- Benjamin Vick III; Epsilon Phi Upsilon (Ε Φ Υ)
- Matt Wallin; Epsilon Phi Upsilon (Ε Φ y)
- Luke Waters; Epsilon Phi Upsilon (Ε Φ Υ)
- Tell Shappley; Zeta Eta Theta (Ζ Η Θ)
- Phil McDaniel; Zeta Eta Theta (Ζ Η Θ)
- Christian Duque; Zeta Eta Theta (Ζ Η Θ)
- Christopher Cunningham; Kappa Sigma Phi (Κ Σ Φ)
- Frank Tant; Kappa Sigma Phi* (Κ Σ Φ)

[edit] Intramural Activities
Lambda competes in a number of Intramural competitions every year, whether they be athletic or some other form of competition among the clubs on campus. Traditionally the competition in each activity, athletic and otherwise, are divided up into two divisions for either male or female clubs. Each activity is optional but all are highly suggested to be participated in by each club so as to keep that club in the running for awards each year. Awards are given at the end of each school year at the Student Government Association (SGA) banquet in many different categories to each winner in separate male and female categories.
- List of Awards:
- Service Club of the Year Award.
- Athletic Club of the Year Award.
- Banner Award.
- Jamboree Award.
- Scrapbook Award.
- Grade Point Average (GPA) Award.
- Overall Club of the Year Award.
[edit] Service Projects
Lambda participates in service projects both on campus and off as part of its commitment to Faulkner and to fulfill the clause in its constitution. The club participates in canned food and clothing drives among other off campus projects.
[edit] Athletics
Lambda competes in 4 "major" and 6 "minor" sports each year (Major and Minor sports were added over the summer, thus they are not reflected in recordings for the past years). The difference between the two is that the major sports count for more points towards the Club of the Year awards that are given at the end of each year. Each club plays two games against the other four clubs in the same division as well as two Independent teams in Flag Football and Basketball.
- List of Sports participated in:
- Kickball (Minor).
- Softball (Major).
- Flag football (Major).
- Horseshoes (Minor).
- Ping Pong (Minor).
- Basketball (Major).
- Tennis (Minor).
- Soccer (Minor).
- Volleyball (Major).
- Bowling (Minor).
[edit] Bible Bowl
Bible Bowl is an Intramural activity that was added last year as a "sport" and has since been moved out of that realm and into its own category. Since Faulkner is a Christian school, the clubs thought that adding a Bible knowledge competition would be a good idea. The competition asks questions about the Bible and points are awarded for correct answers. The team with the most points at the end of two rounds wins. Each club from the male division is played twice and an Independent team is played as well.
[edit] Banner
Banner is a competition between each grouping of brother and sister clubs to see who can create the most creative, well-designed and most spirited banner. This competition has since been changed so that the doors on the front of the gymnasium are painted instead of actual banners.
[edit] Jamboree
Jamboree is an annual show put on by each brother and sister club every Spring at Faulkner. The clubs shows are judged based on content, music, lyrics, backdrops, staging and other categories not unlike the aforementioned. There has been much recent discussion about whether to make this a biennial event and replace it every other year with a concert, but no vote has been made yet.
[edit] Scrapbook
Scrapbooks are created each year by every club and are turned in and an award is given for the best one in each male and female category. Scrapbooks are graded on theme, creativity, content and overall club spirit.
[edit] GPA
To participate in club intramural activities a person must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0. At the end of each year, GPA's are averaged for each club and an award for highest overall club GPA is given at the SGA banquet; the award is given for both male and female divisions.

[edit] Members
Lambda usually has between 12-25 members in the club depending on how many leave, graduate, etc. from the prior year. Each member of the club must show an ability to work as a team, a competitive want to win and act like a Christian on and off the field. Members are voted on after they rush the club at the beginning of each Fall semester. If they are voted in, they are admitted, Lambda has no formal pledging activities other than those required by the school for admittance. Once admitted, members are allowed to participate in all activities, as long as they are in good academic standing with the University.
