Lamar Smith (NFL)

Lamar Hunter Smith (born November 29, 1970, Fort Wayne, Indiana) is an American Football running back. From 1994–2003, he played in the National Football League for the Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.

Smith attended South Side High School (Fort Wayne, Indiana). After high school, he attended Northeast Oklahoma A & M Junior College and then the University of Houston on scholarship for his final two years. He was selected in the third round with the 73rd overall pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 1994 NFL Draft.

Smith has not officially retired.

Smith was charged with vehicular assault in 1994; he was drinking and driving prior to a car wreck that left teammate Mike Frier paralyzed from the neck down. Smith in a legal settlement was forced to pay a portion of his salary for his entire career to Frier.
