Lakewood High School is a public secondary school located in Lakewood, Colorado and is part of the Jefferson County School District. Lakewood was ranked as the 111th best school in the nation by Newsweek[1] in 2006, which makes it the highest ranked high school in the U.S. state of Colorado. Lakewood is an International Baccalaureate World School.

Lakewood's students have won awards for photography, literature, visual arts, DECA, the AME, Choir, orchestral band, and others.

As a result of a bond issue on the 2004 ballot, Lakewood has received over 26 million USD to construct a new school building. Construction began in January 2006, and is expected to continue until the summer of 2007. The new building will have its official opening over the summer of 2007, and will be open for use by the student body and faculty starting at the begenning of the 2007-2008 school year.

Lakewood has both honors and Advanced Placement programs for more advanced students. Lakewood is also the only International Baccalaureate school in the Jefferson County School District.

For five out of the last six years, a Lakewood student has received a Boettcher Scholarship, marking them as one of the top forty students in the state of Colorado. Additionally, Lakewood High School has had more students qualify for National Merit honors than all other Jefferson County School National Merit recipients combined from 2002 to 2006.

[edit] Rocket Club

In 2003, the Lakewood rocket club took 13th place in the United States at the Team America Rocketry Challenge. In 2005, the team took 20th place at Nationals.

The Lakewood choir took 2nd place at the CMEA awards in 2005.
