[edit] Student profile
Lakeview School District serves over 3,300 students yearly in its K-12 and Alternative Education programs. Students attend classes in one of seven District buildings, including a high school, a middle school (grades 5-8), and four elementary schools (grades K-4).
Lakeview students perform slightly above average academically at both the state and national levels with over ninety percent of students continuing their education in some way after graduation from High School. Students also have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and explore areas of interest through a small selection of extracurricular activities and athletic programs.
With this being said, however, Lakeview's curriculum lacks any hint of diversity and tends toward the mainstream. It fails to offer any classes which adequately prepare a student to take the IB or AP test in any subject. It also makes no effort to expose students to different cultures or ways of thinking, and depends on outdated resources and archaic pedagogical philosophies. In addition to archaic textbooks, its teachers often teach classes outside their specialties. For example, Lakeview's primary Spanish language teacher has a B.A. in English and only a minor in Spanish. A system of this fashion discourages anyone from performing above average, for the curriculum simply cannot support any students at the advanced level.
Its average standardized test scores often fall below the national average and grade inflation plagues all aspects of the institution.
As far as local standards and mediocre state universities are concerned, Lakeview School District offers an acceptable education. If a student wishes to attend a university of a higher caliber or aim above the median, he or she would be advised to seek an education at a different institution, better equipped to suit his or her needs.
