Lakeridge High School was designed by architect John Storrs. Lakeridge opened on September 7, 1971 to more than a thousand students. Many names had been considered for the school, including "The Free People's Learning Center," but "Lakeridge" won out.[citation needed]

Lakeridge High School is located in Lake Oswego, Oregon, an affluent suburb of Portland. With a population of approximately 34,000, Lake Oswego is considered one of the finest residential areas in Oregon. Lakeridge High School (south side of Oswego Lake) is a rival of Lake Oswego High School (north side of Oswego Lake). Lakeridge High School has just over 1,000 students, grades 9 through 12. It is regarded as one of the top public high schools in the state of Oregon. About 80% of Lakeridge graduate attend a four-year university and an additional 10% attend a two-year community college.

Lakeridge High School is a four-year comprehensive secondary school which offers a rigorous course of study aimed at meeting the needs of a predominantly white affluent college-bound student body.

In addition to having an excellent academic program, Lakeridge also offers opportunities for students to participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including outstanding visual and performing arts programs and a highly successful athletic program.
