• the Grand Valley State University Lakers, a NCAA Division II school, in Allendale, Michigan just miles from Michigan's west coast along Lake Michigan.
• the Lake Superior State University Lakers, another Michigan-based NCAA Division II school, located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
• the Laguna Lakers, a defunct basketball team in the Philippines based in Laguna.
• Sir Freddie Laker, an aviation entrepreneur.
• Laker Airways, the airline the late Sir Freddie Laker founded in 1966, which went on to write a new chapter in aviation history with its revolutionary "Skytrain" low-fare, "no frills" service across the Atlantic in the late 1970s and early 1980s before going spectacularly bust in 1982.
